Cabinet approved ₹9,450 crore multi-tracking railway projects across four States

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved four Railway Ministry multi-tracking projects with a total cost of about ₹9,450 crore, adding around 410 km of additional lines across West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The works include fourth-line projects on Kharagpur–Bhadrak (Ranital) and Bhadrak–Haridaspur, third/fourth lines on Gummidipundi–Gudur, and third/fourth lines on Cuttack–Paradeep (Badabandha), with a completion deadline up to 2030–31.
Why it matters
The added line capacity is intended to reduce congestion and improve passenger and freight movement on key eastern and southern rail corridors, including projected additional freight capacity cited by the ministry.
