MoRTH issued SOPs assigning agencies roles to remove stray animals from national highways

India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued a notification laying out standard operating procedures for preventing stray-animal incursions and for the safe removal and transport of stray animals from national highways and expressways. Under the SOPs, NHAI and other national highway agencies are responsible for removing animals from highways and transporting them to shelters designated by state governments, while state/district/local administrations are responsible for identifying, establishing and maintaining those facilities and related records.
