India reported achieving a 1,000 km quantum-secure communications milestone
10 Oct 2026
India reported achieving a 1,000-kilometre milestone in quantum-secure communications, as announced on October 10, 2026. The announcement did not specify whether the distance reflects a continuous operational network, interconnected experimental links, or multiple demonstrations.
Why it matters
If matured into deployable networks, long-distance quantum-secure communications could strengthen protection of sensitive defence and government communications against interception risks.
