NITI Aayog released a Data Centre Evaluation Framework for state governments

NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub released a Data Centre Evaluation Framework on 2026-10-14 to help state governments assess and plan sustainable data centre investments. The framework proposes evaluating data centre proposals across five pillars including power and energy, water and cooling, siting and environmental sustainability, economic and strategic value, and policy/governance to improve infrastructure readiness and reduce implementation risks.
Why it matters
It gives states a structured method to judge whether grid, water, land and governance capacity can support data centres before approvals and incentives are committed, potentially reducing project failure and resource stress.
