India’s PMSG residential rooftop solar capacity reached 17,561 MW by September 2026
30 Sept 2026
Residential rooftop solar capacity installed under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) stood at 17,561 MW as of September 2026, covering 5,947,035 households, according to data cited from JMK Research & Analytics and the PMSG: MBY portal. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat together accounted for about 45% of installed capacity; September 2026 additions were reported as 234.46 MW (UP), 208.04 MW (Maharashtra) and 165.6 MW (Gujarat).
Why it matters
Higher installed rooftop solar capacity increases household-level clean electricity generation and reduces dependence on grid power for participating homes.
