Starlink resubmitted IN-SPACe application for Gen 2 satellite constellation authorisation in India

Starlink has resubmitted an application to India’s space regulator, IN-SPACe, seeking authorisation for its Gen 2 low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation, including newer capabilities such as direct-to-device connectivity, according to people familiar with the matter cited by ET Telecom. The request seeks authorisation for nearly 30,000 satellites at an altitude range of about 340–615 km, after an earlier Gen 2 application was previously rejected while Gen 1 was approved in July 2025.
Why it matters
If authorised, it would be a regulatory step toward enabling Starlink to offer newer satellite service capabilities (including direct-to-device) in India, subject to remaining requirements such as security clearances and spectrum allocation.
