Chennai Customs ordered waiver of demurrage and storage charges for SCMTR glitches

Chennai Customs issued an order directing custodians and shipping lines not to levy or collect demurrage, detention, or storage charges on containers whose non-clearance or movement delays were attributable to technical issues in implementing the Sea Cargo Manifest and Transhipment Regulations (SCMTR). The waiver applies for charges arising during September 6–30, amid reported disruptions that left nearly 300 import consignments held up at Chennai Port.
