Chennai Corporation sought approval to set up an Amma Canteen at Omandurar hospital

The Greater Chennai Corporation said it is planning to establish an Amma Canteen at the Omandurar Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital and has sought retrospective government approval and permission for building, electrical, equipment and other works to begin operations. A site near Tower-7 (near the OPD entrance) has been identified, and an existing children’s ward was inspected and found suitable with only minor infrastructure improvements required.
Why it matters
If approved and implemented, this would add a subsidised food facility within a major public hospital for patients and attendants.
