Chennai began desilting 1,671 km of stormwater drains for monsoon preparedness

Greater Chennai Corporation told the city council that desilting work covering 1,671 km of stormwater drains is under way, with an estimated cost of ₹22.46 crore. The corporation also said it is conducting a ₹15 lakh drone survey to verify desilting work and ensure removed silt and garbage are cleared.
Why it matters
Desilting stormwater drains can reduce urban flooding risk during monsoon rains by improving drainage capacity in low-lying areas.
