Chennai Division converted 70 manned level crossings to electrically operated barriers

Chennai Division of Southern Railway has replaced manual gates with electrically operated lifting barriers (EOLBs) at 70 of its 143 manned level crossings, reducing barrier opening/closing time from up to about three minutes to about 8–12 seconds. The Chennai Beach–Chengalpet section now has EOLBs at all 13 manned crossings, with additional conversions reported across other sections including Chengalpet–Arakkonam and Chennai Central–Gudur.
