Tamil Nadu announced subsidies for 1,000 e-autos and 1,000 CNG auto retrofits
Tamil Nadu announced a 50% subsidy (up to ₹75,000) for 1,000 workers to purchase new electric autos and a 50% subsidy (up to ₹30,000) for 1,000 workers to convert existing autos to CNG, for those registered with the Tamil Nadu Unorganised Drivers and Automobile Workshop Workers Welfare Board. The State also announced ₹10 lakh accidental insurance for registered gig workers, Construction Skill Centres of Excellence in five government ITIs (₹76.46 crore), transit accommodation centres in Chennai and Coimbatore (₹14 crore), and a skill/foreign-language training scheme for 1,000 construction workers (₹15.06 crore).
If implemented as announced, these measures would lower the cost barrier for cleaner auto-rickshaw adoption and expand worker safety and skills support for gig and construction workers in Tamil Nadu.
