Tamil Nadu launched ‘Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam’ for newborns in govt hospitals
Madurai, Tamil Nadu28 Sept 2026
Tamil Nadu launched the ‘Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam’ on September 28, 2026, at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for babies born in government healthcare institutions across the State. The scheme envisages gifting a one-gram BIS-hallmarked gold ring to newborns delivered in Tamil Nadu’s government hospitals on or after June 22, 2026; at the inaugural function in Madurai, rings were presented to 27 infants.
Why it matters
If implemented as described, it adds a new State-wide postnatal benefit for births in government facilities, increasing direct material support to newborns’ families.
