During the third phase of an underwater archaeological survey off the Poompuhar coast in Mayiladuthurai district, archaeologists from the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology recovered a fragment of a torpedo jar and identified four ancient ring wells. The team also recovered over 250 ceramic pieces, including glazed ware, from an area of nearly two square kilometres at around 10 metres depth, about two kilometres offshore between Poompuhar and Thirumullaivasal.
