CCEA approves ₹17,167-crore Outer Harbour Project at VOC Port, Thoothukudi

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the ₹17,167-crore Outer Harbour Project at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi, according to The Hindu BusinessLine citing the port authority. The port authority said the project includes new harbour infrastructure and container terminal capacity, with harbour works planned under the Hybrid Annuity Model (₹11,733 crore) and the container terminal (Phase I & II) under DBFOT (₹5,434 crore).
Why it matters
Approval clears the project to proceed toward adding port and container-handling capacity at Thoothukudi, supporting future maritime trade connectivity.
