A dedicated skate park built by the Tamil Nadu government was inaugurated at Buttfire near Udhagamandalam (Ooty) on September 11, 2026. The facility was constructed on a 2-acre plot at a cost of ₹1.85 crore and includes a 110-metre skating rink plus skateboarding features such as a bowl, pump track and ramps.
Why it matters
The new facility creates purpose-built skating infrastructure in the Nilgiris district, supporting training and competitions for skateboarders who participate in higher-level events.
