Union Cabinet approved ₹53,428 crore to continue NSAP for 2026-27 to 2030-31
14 Oct 2026
The Union Cabinet approved an outlay of ₹53,428 crore to continue the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) for five years from 2026-27 to 2030-31. It also renamed NSAP as “Pradhan Mantri Samajik Sahayata Yojana”, removing the “Indira Gandhi” prefix from the old-age, widow and disability pension sub-schemes, and revised eligibility criteria and assistance rates for disability pension beneficiaries.
Why it matters
The approval commits central funding and updates rules for social assistance pensions, affecting how disability pension beneficiaries qualify and the support level they receive over the next five years.
