Union Cabinet approved PM-DHARA scheme for intra-state green power evacuation

30 Sept 2026

The Union Cabinet approved the PM-DHARA (PM-Developing Harmonised and Accelerated Renewable-energy Access) scheme, with an investment outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore to upgrade intra-state transmission systems to enable evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy across states and Union Territories. The scheme includes ₹1,36,378 crore for state-level transmission infrastructure, ₹50,000 crore to deploy 50 GWh of battery energy storage systems, and ₹54,082 crore of central financial support, with completion targeted by FY 2032–33.

Why it matters

Upgrading intra-state transmission and adding grid-scale storage is intended to reduce renewable energy curtailment and improve grid flexibility so more wind/solar generation can be reliably delivered to users.
