IRRPL test-fires first AK-203 rifle made with 100% Indian components at Amethi plant

Indo-Russian Rifles Private Ltd (IRRPL) manufactured and successfully test-fired its first fully indigenous AK-203 assault rifle, named 'Sher', at its Korwa facility in Amethi, using 100% Indian components and input materials, according to the report. IRRPL said the rifle completed firing trials including burst firing, and the company is preparing prototypes for Indian Army user trials scheduled for September 2026.
Why it matters
A fully indigenised AK-203 indicates domestic sourcing capability for a key small-arms platform intended to replace INSAS rifles, potentially reducing dependence on imported parts during scale-up.
