BL Agro said it will invest ₹1,500 crore in cattle genetics and reproductive tech via Leads Genetics

Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh17 Sept 2026

BL Agro Group said it plans to invest ₹1,500 crore in its biotechnology subsidiary, Leads Genetics, to develop an integrated cattle genetics and reproductive-technology ecosystem for India’s dairy sector. The proposed set-up includes a Breed Improvement Farm, an IVF-ET lab, a MOET facility, and pathology and genomics laboratories; the company also said it unveiled a Zebu-optimised bovine SNP chip and demonstrated next-generation sequencing on an Illumina NovaSeq X platform.

Why it matters

If implemented, these facilities and tools could increase domestic capability for genetic evaluation and assisted reproduction (embryos/sexed semen), potentially improving cattle productivity and reducing reliance on imported germplasm.
