Officials said a ₹3,080 crore large-scale biopolymer plant in Lakhimpur Kheri district, Uttar Pradesh, is under construction and is likely to become operational in October 2026. The facility is intended to convert locally grown sugarcane into polylactic acid (PLA)-based bioplastic on a single campus and includes a Zero Liquid Discharge system, according to officials cited by PTI.
Why it matters
If it becomes operational as stated, it would add domestic manufacturing capacity for PLA bioplastics using local sugarcane feedstock while aiming to limit liquid effluent discharge via ZLD.
