Rakesh Gangwal commits additional ₹300 crore for a medical school at IIT Kanpur

IIT Kanpur alumnus and IndiGo co-founder Rakesh Gangwal committed an additional ₹300 crore for the development of the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology at IIT Kanpur. The commitment includes matching grants of up to ₹300 crore against contributions from other donors; the project envisages a 500-bed super-speciality hospital and a proposed 200-bed cancer care and research centre on the IIT Kanpur campus.
Why it matters
The additional committed funding supports building medical education and clinical research capacity at IIT Kanpur, alongside expanded healthcare delivery infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh.
