Balrampur Chini grant approved for PLA bioplastics R&D unit at Kumbhi, UP

Balrampur Chini Mills said a ₹75 crore central grant has been approved to set up a pilot research facility for bio-plastic polylactic acid (PLA) and co-polymer products. The 100-tonnes-per-annum R&D plant is planned at Kumbhi in Uttar Pradesh at a total cost of ₹110 crore, with the grant provided by BIRAC under the Department of Biotechnology.
Why it matters
If executed, the pilot R&D unit would support development of indigenous PLA/co-polymer technology and capabilities for bio-based materials manufacturing in India.
