Uttar Pradesh approves lifelong free UPSRTC bus travel for women aged 60+

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yojana, making women aged 60 years and above eligible for lifelong free travel on Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses (in ordinary buses). The scheme includes issuance of special smart cards by UPSRTC to identify eligible passengers for implementation.
Why it matters
This changes access to public transport for senior women in Uttar Pradesh by removing fare costs and formalising eligibility via smart cards.
