Tea Board, ISRO-NRSC and NIT Rourkela sign MoU to develop AI tea monitoring system

Tea Board India signed a tripartite MoU with ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and NIT Rourkela to launch an R&D project (“CHAAYANKAN”) to develop an AI/ML-based system for mapping and monitoring tea plantations using satellite and UAV remote sensing data combined with ground, weather and entomological inputs. The project is scheduled to run until March 2029 and is intended to be implemented across major tea-growing regions in India.
