Texmaco says South Africa rail contract value rose to ₹5,300 crore

Kolkata, West Bengal26 Sept 2026

Texmaco Rail and Engineering Ltd said the value of its South Africa orders increased to ₹5,300 crore within two months, up from a ₹4,100-crore contract it received in July. The company said it plans to manufacture locomotive and freight rolling stock components at its West Bengal factories and ship them to South Africa, and that work to set up a supporting plant in South Africa is “in full swing” for a 15-year maintenance contract.

Why it matters

A larger confirmed export order book and associated maintenance obligations can sustain Indian rolling-stock manufacturing output and related supply chains in West Bengal over multiple years.
