Fourth rail line approved for Malda–New Jalpaiguri section in Siliguri Corridor

Indian Railways has approved a fourth railway line for the Malda–New Jalpaiguri section that runs through the Siliguri ("Chicken’s Neck") corridor, according to Northeast Frontier Railway officials.
Why it matters
Adding an additional line is intended to increase rail capacity on the key land link connecting India’s Northeast with the rest of the country.
